Chim Y. Chin, Ph.D. Joins PureVision Team

March 16, 2006
Fort Lupton, CO: On February 27, 2006, PureVision Technology, Inc., a leader in biorefinery technology, welcomed Dr. Chim Yong Chin to its technical team as a research scientist. Dr. Chin spent the last 10 years at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, attaining his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.

Dr. Chin brings technical experience to PureVision in designing, building and operating chromatography separation equipment for simulated moving bed (SMB) systems for more effective biomass recovery. Dr. Chin and his Purdue graduate advisor, Professor Linda Wang, filed a U.S. patent application in 2004 to patent the SMB value technology and co-authored ten peer-reviewed journal articles. While at Purdue, Dr. Chin also gained entrepreneurial experience from winning competitive fellowships and business plan competitions, and from leading research and business teams.

PureVision's patented biorefinery technology fractionates or separates cellulosic biomass into its three major components – cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. This novel technology differs from all competing technologies in the world today by producing a pure cellulose product stream and two liquid streams containing hemicellulosic sugars and low molecular weight lignin in a patented countercurrent extraction process. This novel fractionation technique is on track to become the core technology for large industrial biorefineries, which will be used to convert abundant and diverse biomass into bio-based products in the near future. Analogous to oil refineries, biorefineries convert biomass into sugars and other by-products for use in the production of ethanol, bio-plastics, pulp and paper products, lubricants, sealers and many other industrial products.

Dr. Chin’s expertise and knowledge will complement PureVision’s multi-talented team of scientists, engineers, technicians and entrepreneurs.
