Once biomass is
fractionated into cellulose, xylose and lignin fractions
utilizing the PureVision technology, what remains is black
liquor. While in the past, cleanup of the black liquor has
been a major problem and cost for the pulp & paper
industry, PureVision is able to utilize its black liquor.
Working with a synergistic biomass utilization technology,
this black liquor becomes a biogrowth medium to grow
non-genetically modified yeast at the biorefinery to be
used for fermenting sugars into alcohol. The remainder of
the yeast as well as the mature yeast from fermentation can
be recovered and processed into high-protein animal food.
The animal feed markets are well established and are
virtually unlimited – especially with the collapse of
wild fish stocks and the growing worldwide human appetite
for higher quality protein.
